About Athletele

Athletele is a free daily sports trivia game. Each day you're shown the full season-by-season stat line of a mystery athlete — games played, scoring, and the rest of their career table — with the team column hidden. Your job is to figure out who it is in three guesses. Every wrong guess reveals the team for one of their seasons, which is often the clue that cracks it open: that one year on a new team, the mid-career trade, the farewell season somewhere unexpected.

The game covers four leagues — NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL — each with its own daily puzzle. If one a day isn't enough, Infinite mode serves unlimited random players and tracks your streak. You can play against the pool of active players or the all-time pool, and in Infinite mode you can even narrow the pool to a specific era or franchise — try guessing 1990s Bulls players or 2010s Patriots.

Where the stats come from

Player statistics are compiled from official league data sources: the NBA's public stats API, MLB's official Stats API, the NHL's public API, and the nflverse open-data project for football. Historical data reaches back decades — to the NBA's founding season in 1946-47, the NHL's in 1917-18, MLB's earliest recorded seasons, and NFL skill-position stats back to 1970. Some very old records are incomplete; if you spot an error, use the feedback form on the home page and we'll dig into it.

Who's in the player pool?

To keep the game fair and fun, only players with meaningful careers are eligible to be the mystery athlete — for example, NBA players need seasons averaging double-digit points, and NFL players need substantial career yardage. The full eligibility rules are listed in the "?" help menu on the game page.
